INSTITUTE OF COMMUNICATIONS AND COMPUTER SYSTEMS

ICCS is a research institute affiliated with the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and is the research host of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). ICCS is very active in programmes financed by the European Commission both as technical partner and co-ordinator. The scientific activities and research conducted by ICCS covers a broad spectrum including Hardware and Software technologies, computer network technology, mobile technology, digital and photonic technologies for communications, control and automation technologies, energy and power production technologies, biomedical and biomechanics technologies as well as information systems. Since its foundation in 1989, ICCS has followed closely the progress of the disciplines of electrical and computer engineering and has grown into a competent research institute in Greece and Europe.

Role in the project

ICCS has an integral role in reaching the project’s goals in regards to performance and integration of components. Specifically:

  • ICCS is in charge of optimising the multi-fidelity simulations. ICCS will leverage its experience and expertise on application design for multi-GPU systems and further employ powerful autotuning-strategies and efficient design space exploration to fine-tune parameters across hardware, framework and application levels to deliver high performance execution of multi-fidelity simulations.

  • ICCS will also lead the task for acceleration and performance optimization of the deep-learning inference for flow prediction and super-resolution models. GPU-acceleration, auto-tuning compiler frameworks as well as memory and kernel optimizations will be examined.

  • ICCS will develop and deploy the RefMap cloud which will then host the integration of tools, models and analytics developed. ICCS will also oversee the technical testing and assessment of RefMap services by third-party users.
