RefMap’s Open Call to aviation and drone experts

Are you an aviation or drone expert? Then we ask for your input!

If you belong to the wider aviation community including both traditional aviation but also drones, we invite you to participate in an interview on reduction of environmental footprint of air travel conducted by the RefMap project on behalf of the European Union. We are on a mission to conduct a minimum of 100 interviews with senior aviation stakeholders so they help us define what should be the main features of a Platform reducing the environmental footprint of air travel. The interviews are conducted by our partners Future Needs and ISCTE.

We are looking for experts who work or have worked in:

Airlines | Drone manufacturers | Unmanned Aircraft System Traffic Management authorities | Civil Aviation Authorities | Airport Authorities | Air Navigation Services | Ministries of Transport | Transport departments of Municipalities especially in vicinity of airports | Environmental Agencies especially when focused on aviation footprint | Aerospace Academics | Drone Industry | Aviation Policy Makers | Eurocontrol | EASA | ICAO | Environmental NGOs focused on aviation footprint | Noise experts | Urban structure specialists | Aviation fuel experts | Aviation traffic simulation experts | Aircraft manufacturers

How to apply:

If you are happy to join our efforts and participate, please send an email to Anna Palaiologk at anna AT futureneeds DOT eu with the title “Expert for REFMAP MVP interview”.

What is the RefMap platform expected to deliver?

RefMap develops a digital service focused on quantifying environmental footprint of air mobility for airliners and Unmanned Aircraft Systems where single-trajectories and the flow traffic of multiple vehicles are optimised to minimise the environmental impact on communities. By using environmental data, such as wind, noise, CO2 and non-CO2 emissions, RefMap's analytics platform will help airlines make eco-friendly decisions. This leads to stricter evidence-based “green” policymaking in the aviation sector and the development of new aviation business models in line with the EU's Green Agenda.

Aim and format of the interview

Our survey aims to assess the features of our tool and identify their added value in sustainable aviation. Through the process of the interviews, we will have the opportunity to explore additional applications of the RefMap platform and identify any improvements that can be made at this stage, keeping in mind future aviation scenarios. The interviews are conducted by our partners Future Needs and ISCTE.

  • Duration: 1 hour

  • Format: Video conference call

  • Data: Your personal information will not be stored, shared or processed. All information will be anonymised.

  • Narrative control: You will be asked to review the transcript before it is processed.

The interviews will take place online and the identity of participants will be kept confidential in any publications of the results. Based on the participant’s background, different real-life scenarios will be presented, tailored to specific RefMap features and potential problems within them, followed by various multiple-choice and open-end questions. Experts will then be asked to evaluate the characteristics of the tools and the contribution of the RefMap platform to the solution of the identified problems. This process will help prioritise the characteristics of RefMap, which in turn will form the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) features for piloting the RefMap platform, collecting user feedback, and integrating it into the final version. Furthermore, the prioritised characteristics and the experts' feedback will play a role in defining new business models in the aviation industry.
