REFMAP completed

REFMAP, Reducing Environmental Footprint through transformative Multi-scale Aviation Planning, ran from 1 February 2023 to 31 January 2026 under Horizon Europe grant agreement 101096698. The project, coordinated by KTH Royal Institute of Technology, had a budget of EUR 4 034 527 and brought together eight funded beneficiaries in seven countries and three associated partners.

REFMAP delivered a multi-scale framework for assessing the environmental footprint of aviation, covering noise and emissions from both conventional aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles, integrated into trajectory optimisation and made available through the RefMap cloud service.

The European Commission completed its final review of the project in 2026. The review letter is positive, and the project is now closed.

Ricardo Vinuesa (KTH) coordinated REFMAP. Artem Kulachenko (KTH) took over the coordination in September 2025 and was responsible for the final reporting and the closure.
