Members of the Refmap project recently participated in the 9th European African Conference on Wind Engineering (EACWE) held in Trondheim, Norway over the 16th - 19th of June. Representing TU Delft, researchers Clara Garcia Sanchez and Akshay Patil presented complementary research addressing key challenges in understanding urban flow dynamics.
Clara's presentation, “Reflecting on the wind direction effects: how many degrees are enough?”, critically examined the sensitivity of wind engineering analyses to variations in the number of wind directions used to quantify flow parameters, highlighting thresholds beyond which further angular resolution offers diminishing returns.
Akshay's talk, “Understanding the effect of large-scale forcing on small-scale flow response using canonical flows”, explored how broad-scale atmospheric patterns influence localized flow behaviors, using idealized setups to isolate key mechanisms that drive these changes within the urban canopy.
